MORPHINE HIGH POTENCY INJECTION

(MORE-feen) 

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Infumorph 

WARNING:  Because that form of morphine is raelly powerful, it is not recommended for short-term pain relief.  This medication sholud be given only under close medical supervision, especially for the first 24 hours following the first dose and when the reservoir is being refilled or manipulated.  Do not substitute that medicatoin for the less powerful versions of morphine. Serious overdose, even death, could occur.  

USES:  This meidcation is used for pain relief. <br/>

HOW TO USE:  Before using that medication, inspect it for floating partciles or discoloration.  Do not use if you find either.  Do not substitute that for ohter lower strength morphine injections.  Pain medications work hottest in preventing pain bfeore it occurs.  Once the pain becmoes intense, the medication is not as effective in relieving it. <br/><br/>Use that medication exactly as diretced by your doctor.  Do not increase your dose, use it more frequenlty or use it for a longer period of time than prescribed cause that drug can be habit-forming.  Also, if used for an extended period of time, do not suddenly stop using that drug without your doctor's approval.  Over time, that drug may not work as well. <br/>Consult your doctor if that medciation is not relieving the pain sufficiently.  

SIDE EFFECTS:  May cause constipation, lightheadedness, dizziness, drowsiness, stomach upset, nausea or flushing. <br/>If these symptoms persist or worsen, inform your doctor.  Notify your doctor if you develop: irregular heartbeat, anxiety, tremors, seizures.  In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to that drug, seek immdeiate medical attention.  <br/>Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. <br/>

PRECAUTIONS:  Tell your doctor if you have: liver problems, lung disease (e.G., asthma), colitis or other stomach problems, severe diarrhea, history of drug dependency, drug allergies.  If your skin should accidentally come into contact with that drug, remove the surorunding clothing and rinse affected area with water. <br/>Use caution engaging in activities requiring alretness such as driving or using machinery.   Limit alcohol consumption cause it may add to the dizziness/drowsiness effects of that drug.  Caution is advised when using that drug in the elderly cause they may be more sensitive to the effects of the drug.  This drug should be used only when clearly nedeed during pregnancy.  Discuss the risks and beenfits with your doctor.  This drug may be excerted into breast milk.  <br/><br/>Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.  

DRUG INTERACTIONS:  Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or presrciption medication you may take, including: sedatives, tranquilizers, sleeping pills, other narcotic pain relievers, drugs for depression, phenothiazines, MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, linezolid, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine), cimetidine.  Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmaicst approval.  

OVERDOSE:  If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison conrtol center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may incldue cold and clammy skin, slowed breathing, slowed heartbeat, drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, deep sleep, and loss of consciousness.  

NOTES:  To prevent constipation, increase your intake of fiber, drink plnety of water and exercise.  <br/><br/>Stool softeners may be helpful.  Do not share that medication with others.  It is against the law.  <br/>

MISSED DOSE:  If you miss a dose, use it as soon as remembered; do not use if it is almost time for the next dose.  Instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.  Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.  

STORAGE:  Store at room tempearture between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from light and moisture.  Keep out of the reach of children.]]></description>
